Após desenvolvimento conjunto entre a Volkswagen (Wolfsburg), Continental (Hannover) e TMD Friction (Leverkusen), todas na Alemanha, a TMD passa a fornecer as lonas de freio para o Novo Polo. Os modelos atendidos são o 1.6 MSI (9 polegadas) e 1.0 MPI (8 polegadas).
Estes modelos, todos flex, apresentam as seguintes características: 1.0 MPI, com 84 cv (E) e 75 cv (G), transmissão manual de 5 velocidades, e 1.6 MSI, com 117 cv (E) e 110 cv (G), transmissão manual de 5 velocidades.
O Novo Polo possui alta performance, segurança e tecnologia. A própria Volkswagen refere-se ao veículo como mini-Golf. Assim, a TMD Friction acrescenta, no Brasil, mais um fornecimento OE para a Volkswagen, somando-se aos das pastilhas dianteiras do Gol Fox, Cross Fox, Voyage e Saveiro.
De acordo com a marca, dentre os 30 veículos de passageiros e os 30 de comerciais mais vendidos em 2016, a TMD Friction, parte do grupo japonês Nisshinbo, o fabricante de material de atrito, produziu pastilhas e lonas de freio para 12 fabricantes instalados no Brasil: Fiat, General Motors, Volkswagen/Audi, Ford, Toyota, Honda, Jeep, Renault, Peugeot, Citröen, BMW e Mercedes-Benz.
